Pauline Diana Baynes (1922–2008) was an English illustrator whose iconic artwork brought to life J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth works like Farmer Giles of Ham, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, Smith of Wootton Major, covers for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and A Map of Middle-earth, as well as all seven volumes of C.S.
