About Jim Kay
Jim Kay is a British illustrator who won the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2012 for his illustrations for A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, a dark and profoundly moving novel about a boy's grief over his dying mother. Kay's illustrations, rendered in charcoal, watercolour, and digital media, were widely praised for their extraordinary expressiveness and tonal range. Kay is also the illustrator of the highly anticipated illustrated editions of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, published by Bloomsbury beginning in 2015. His highly detailed, atmospheric illustrations for the Harry Potter books have been celebrated for their invention and for breathing new life into one of the most beloved series in children's literature. Kay studied illustration at the University of the Arts London and worked at Kew Gardens creating botanical illustrations before being discovered by a children's book publisher. He lives in Northamptonshire, England.
