About Charles Keeping
Charles William James Keeping (1924–1988) was an English illustrator, children's book author, and lithographer, best known for illustrating Rosemary Sutcliff's historical novels, the complete works of Charles Dickens for the Folio Society, and his own picture books such as Charley, Charlotte and the Golden Canary and The Highwayman. He won two Kate Greenaway Medals for the latter two works, contributed to the Carnegie Medal-winning The God Beneath the Sea, and was a runner-up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1974.
