About Alan Lee
Alan Lee (born 20 August 1947) is an English book illustrator and film conceptual designer best known for his fantasy artwork inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's novels, including the 1992 centenary edition of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Children of Húrin, and others, as well as concept art for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. His notable achievements include the Kate Greenaway Medal for Black Ships Before Troy (1993), World Fantasy Award for Best Artist (1998), and an Academy Award for Best Art Direction for The Return of the King (2004).
