Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

ShelfEvident (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use shelfevident.com, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

We believe in straightforward privacy practices: we collect as little data as possible, we never sell your personal information, and we will always be transparent about what we do.

1. What We Collect

Automatically collected data

When you visit ShelfEvident, our analytics provider (Plausible Analytics) records aggregated, anonymised data about page visits, referral sources, and general geographic region (country level). This data contains no personally identifiable information and no cookies are set.

Newsletter subscription

If you subscribe to the ShelfEvident newsletter, we collect your email address. This is the only personal information we collect. Subscription is entirely voluntary.

What we do not collect

We do not collect names, postal addresses, phone numbers, payment information, or any other personal data. We do not use tracking pixels, fingerprinting, or cross-site tracking of any kind.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • Analytics data — used in aggregate to understand how the site is used and to improve the experience. We cannot identify individual visitors from this data.
  • Email address — used solely to send the ShelfEvident newsletter. Your email address will never be used for any other purpose.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party for marketing purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

Plausible Analytics

ShelfEvident uses Plausible Analytics for website statistics. Plausible is a privacy-focused, cookieless analytics platform that does not track individuals across sites or devices. No cookies are set. No personal data is collected or stored. Plausible is fully GDPR-compliant.

Beehiiv (Newsletter)

Our newsletter is delivered via Beehiiv. If you subscribe, your email address is stored by Beehiiv on their servers in accordance with Beehiiv’s Privacy Policy. Your email is used only for newsletter delivery and is never shared with other parties.

Affiliate Retailers

ShelfEvident links to third-party retailers including Bookshop.org, Amazon, Audible, and Libro.fm. When you follow an affiliate link and visit one of these sites, you are subject to their respective privacy policies. ShelfEvident does not receive any personal data from these transactions. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.

Sanity CMS

Our content is managed via Sanity. Sanity is used internally by the ShelfEvident team only and does not interact with site visitors.

4. Cookies

ShelfEvident does not use cookies for analytics or tracking. We use Plausible Analytics, which is specifically designed to work without cookies. We do not display a cookie consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Your browser may store session data (such as search preferences) using localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.

5. Analytics

Our analytics data is aggregated and anonymised. We can see, for example, that 200 people visited the Booker Prize page on a given day, but we cannot identify who those people were. We use this data solely to understand which content is most useful and to improve the site.

6. Your Rights

Under GDPR (if you are in the European Economic Area) and UK GDPR, and under CCPA (if you are in California), you have rights regarding your personal data. Because we hold so little personal data, exercising these rights is straightforward.

  • Right to access — you may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to erasure — you may request deletion of your data at any time.
  • Right to unsubscribe — every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also unsubscribe at any time by contacting us directly.
  • Right to object — you may object to any processing of your personal data.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us via the About page.

7. Contact

If you have questions about this privacy policy or how ShelfEvident handles data, please get in touch via our About page. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. We will never reduce your rights under this policy without providing clear notice.
