Yoshikichi FuruiJapanese
Yoshikichi Furui (1937-2020) was a Japanese author and translator born in Tokyo. He studied German literature at the University of Tokyo, taught at universities including Kanazawa and Rikkyo, and in 1970 became a full-time writer associated with the "introverted generation" focusing on individual psyche amid Japan's economic growth. His notable works include Yōko (Akutagawa Prize 1971), Asagao (Tanizaki Prize 1983), and White-Haired Melody, and he translated authors like Robert Musil and Hermann Broch.
