Gillian Cross (born December 24, 1945) is a British author of children's books, best known for the Demon Headmaster series, Wolf (1990 Carnegie Medal winner), and The Great Elephant Chase (1992 Whitbread Children's Book Award and Nestlé Smarties Book Prize winner). She published her first book, The Runaway, in 1979 after earning a PhD from the University of Sussex, and has received multiple commendations for the Carnegie Medal along with other accolades for her thrilling and adventurous stories for young readers.
