About This Book
George Washington Black—Wash—is an eleven-year-old field slave on a Barbados sugar plantation in 1830 who is chosen by his master's brother, the eccentric naturalist and inventor Christopher 'Titch' Wilde, to serve as his manservant and then as his scientific assistant. When a violent incident forces them to flee, Wash and Titch embark on a journey across the world in a hot-air balloon.
