Michele Prisco (1920–2003) was an Italian novelist, journalist, and critic born in Torre Annunziata, whose works often explored the middle-class society of Naples and its surroundings. His most notable novel, Una spirale di nebbia (1966, English: A Spiral of Mist), won the prestigious Strega Prize and was adapted into an acclaimed film; he also received the Strega gold medal for his debut La provincia addormentata (1949) and numerous other awards including multiple Premio Napoli.
