About the Author

Boris Schreiber (1923–2008) was a French writer of Russian-Jewish descent, born in Berlin to refugees from the Russian Revolution, who moved to Paris as a child and survived the German occupation in Marseille by working for the Todt Organisation before joining the French Resistance. He dedicated his life to literature, publishing novels and innovative autobiographical works exploring war, survival, Jewish identity, and exile, with notable titles including Le Droit d'asile (1957), La Rencontre des absents (1963), La Traversée du dimanche (1987), and Un silence d'environ une demi-heure (1996). His major achievements include the Prix Combat (1963), Prix Sainte-Beuve (1987), and Prix Renaudot (1996).
