Didier Van Cauwelaert (born July 29, 1960, in Nice, France) is a prolific French novelist and playwright of Belgian descent, best known for his Prix Goncourt-winning novel Un Aller Simple (1994), which explores themes of identity and immigration, and for Hors de moi (2003), adapted into the film Unknown (2011). He has authored over 25 novels translated into 30 languages and received the Grand Prix du théâtre de l’Académie française in 1997 for his theatrical works, along with Tony Award nominations for the musical Amour.com
