About the Author

Victoria Glendinning (born 1937) is a British biographer, novelist, critic, and broadcaster, best known for her award-winning biographies including Vita: The Life of Vita Sackville-West and Trollope (both Whitbread Prize winners), Edith Sitwell, Elizabeth Bowen, Rebecca West, and Jonathan Swift. Educated at Somerville College, Oxford, she worked as a teacher and social worker before becoming an editorial assistant at the Times Literary Supplement and establishing herself as a prominent literary figure, serving as vice-president of the Royal Society of Literature and honorary vice-president of English PEN, and being appointed CBE in 1998. She has also authored novels such as The Grown-Ups, Electricity, and The Butcher's Daughter.
