About the Author

Victor Ambrus (born László Győző Ambrus, 1935) was a Hungarian-born British illustrator renowned for his work on history, folk tales, and animal story books, contributing to nearly 300 titles including fairy tale compilations by Ruth Manning-Sanders and his own award-winning books like The Three Poor Tailors (1965 Kate Greenaway Medal) and Mishka (1975). He fled Hungary during the 1956 Revolution, studied at the Royal College of Art, and became famous for his archaeological reconstructions on the TV series Time Team, while also lecturing at art colleges and designing postage stamps.
