Bertram Richard Brooker (1888–1955) was a Canadian novelist, poet, and pioneering abstract painter who won the Governor General's Award (then called the Lord Tweedsmuir Award) for his debut novel Think of the Earth (1936), the first recipient of this prestigious literary prize. Institute. Born in Croydon, England, he immigrated to Manitoba in 1905 and later authored additional novels including The Robber (1949) while working in advertising and journalism.
