Maxine Hong Kingston (born October 27, 1940) is an American novelist and professor emerita at the University of California, Berkeley. Best known for her works blending autobiography, myth, family history, and Chinese American experiences, her breakthrough memoir The Woman Warrior (1976) won the National Book Critics Circle Award, and China Men (1980) received the National Book Award. She has been honored with the National Humanities Medal (1997) and National Medal of Arts (2014).
