Kate SeredyAmerican (Hungarian-born)
Kate Seredy (1899-1975) was a Hungarian-born American author and illustrator of children's books, best known for The Good Master (Newbery Honor, 1935), The White Stag (Newbery Medal, 1938), and The Singing Tree (Newbery Honor, 1939). Born in Budapest, she immigrated to the United States in 1922, where she wrote stories inspired by her Hungarian childhood and won additional honors including a Caldecott Honor and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award.
