Timothy Irving Frederick Findley (1930–2002) was a Canadian novelist and playwright born in Toronto, Ontario. Beginning his career as an actor with the Stratford Festival, he transitioned to writing in the 1960s, mentored by figures like Alec Guinness and Ruth Gordon. He gained international acclaim for notable works including The Wars (1977, Governor General's Award winner), Famous Last Words (1981), and Not Wanted on the Voyage (1984), often employing a Southern Ontario Gothic style to explore themes of war, sexuality, mental illness, and moral ambiguity.
