The Wapshot Chronicle

John Cheever (1912-1982) was an acclaimed American short story writer and novelist, best known for stories like "The Swimmer," "The Enormous Radio," and "The Country Husband," and novels including The Wapshot Chronicle and Falconer, which explore suburban life with a blend of realism and surrealism. His collection The Stories of John Cheever won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and National Book Critics Circle Award, while The Wapshot Chronicle earned the 1958 National Book Award; he received the National Medal for Literature in 1982 shortly before his death.
