The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain

Peter Sís (born 1949 in Brno, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech-born American illustrator, writer, and filmmaker best known for his children's books such as The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain, Tibet Through the Red Box, Starry Messenger, and Madlenka!. He has earned three Caldecott Honors, the 2012 Hans Christian Andersen Medal for illustration, the 2003 MacArthur Fellowship, and multiple Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards, among other accolades.
