Eric Philbrook Kelly (1884–1960) was an American author of children's historical fiction, best known for his Newbery Medal-winning novel The Trumpeter of Krakow (1928), set in 15th-century Poland. Dartmouth Archives, Digital Maine. A Dartmouth College professor of English for over 30 years, he drew on his experiences in Poland during and after World War I, as well as his journalistic background, to craft stories celebrating Polish history and culture, including other notable works like The Blacksmith of Vilno (1930).
