Ben Lerner is an American novelist and poet born in Topeka, Kansas in 1979. His autofictional novel *The Topeka School*, shortlisted for the 2019 NBCC Fiction Award, traces the origins of toxic masculinity and right-wing populism in 1990s America. He is also a celebrated poet and teaches at Brooklyn College.
