Will Durant (1885-1981) and Ariel Durant (1898-1981), an American husband-and-wife duo, were renowned historians and writers best known for their 11-volume masterwork The Story of Civilization (1935-1975), with Ariel contributing increasingly from research assistant to coauthor; Will also authored the bestselling The Story of Philosophy (1926).
