About the Author

James Howe McClure (1939–2006) was a British crime fiction author best known for his Kramer and Zondi mystery series set in apartheid-era South Africa, including notable works like The Steam Pig (1971 CWA Gold Dagger winner) and The Song Dog (1991). Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, he worked as a journalist in the UK, editing The Oxford Times to a Weekly Newspaper of the Year award in 1997, and also wrote the CWA Silver Dagger-winning spy novel Rogue Eagle (1976) along with acclaimed non-fiction on police forces.
