The Pilgrim Kamanita

Karl Adolph Gjellerup (1857–1919) was a Danish poet and novelist associated with the Modern Breakthrough in Scandinavian literature. He shared the 1917 Nobel Prize in Literature with Henrik Pontoppidan for his varied poetry inspired by lofty ideals, though his pro-German stance diminished his popularity in Denmark. His works evolved from naturalist atheism to romanticism and Buddhist themes, with The Pilgrim Kamanita being his most translated and acclaimed novel.
