Virginia Lee Burton (1909–1968) was an American author and illustrator of children's books, born in Newton Centre, Massachusetts. She is best known for classics like Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (1939) and The Little House (1942), the latter winning the Caldecott Medal in 1943, and founded the influential Folly Cove Designers textile collective.
