About the Author
Uri OrlevIsraeli
Uri Orlev (1931-2022) was a Polish-born Israeli children's author who survived the Warsaw Ghetto, hiding, and Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during the Holocaust. He immigrated to Israel in 1945, lived on a kibbutz, and began publishing children's books in the 1950s, with over 30 works translated into 36 languages, often drawing from his wartime experiences. He received the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1996 for his lasting contribution to children's literature, along with other major prizes like the Bialik Prize.
