Percy A. ScholesEnglish
Percy Alfred Scholes (1877–1958) was an English musician, journalist, and prolific writer best known for compiling the first edition of The Oxford Companion to Music in 1938, a million-word reference work on music appreciation, and for his 1948 biography The Great Dr Burney, which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. He authored over 30 books, served as music critic for The Observer and Evening Standard, and broadcast on BBC radio, while also receiving the OBE in 1956 for his contributions to music.
