Isaac Asimov (1920-1992), a Russian-born American author and biochemistry professor, wrote over 500 books, including the seminal Foundation series—which won a one-time Hugo Award for "Best All-Time Series" in 1966—and the Robot series, famous for the Three Laws of Robotics. His novelette "Nightfall" was voted the best short science fiction story of all time in 1964 by the Science Fiction Writers of America, and he received multiple Hugos and Nebulas, including for The Gods Themselves (1972/1973) and Foundation's Edge (1983), plus the SFWA Grand Master Award in 1987.
