About the Author

Christopher John Koch AO (1932–2013) was an Australian novelist best known for The Year of Living Dangerously (1978), adapted into an Academy Award-winning film for which he co-wrote the screenplay, and for winning the Miles Franklin Award twice (The Doubleman in 1985 and Highways to a War in 1996). Born in Hobart, Tasmania, he began his career as a journalist with the ABC, traveled extensively in Asia and Europe, and became a full-time writer in 1972, often exploring Australian-Asian relations and Tasmanian landscapes in his work. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1995 for his contributions to literature.
