The Door in the Wall

Marguerite de Angeli (1889–1987) was an American author and illustrator of children's books, best known for her Newbery Medal-winning novel The Door in the Wall (1950), which depicts a crippled boy's courage in medieval England, as well as notable works like Bright April (1946), addressing racial prejudice, and Caldecott Honor books Yonie Wondernose (1944) and Book of Nursery and Mother Goose Rhymes (1955). She wrote and illustrated nearly 30 books, often exploring cultural diversity, immigrant life, and tolerance among Amish, Quakers, and other groups. Her achievements include the Regina Medal (1968) for lifetime contributions and induction into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame.
