About the Author

Gareth Richard Vaughan Jones (1905-1935) was a Welsh journalist renowned for being the first to report the Soviet famine of 1930-1933, including the Holodomor, to the Western world under his own name in 1933, following visits to Ukraine where he documented widespread starvation. His notable reports included anonymous articles in The Times on Soviet conditions, a pivotal press release in Berlin, and coverage of Nazi Germany including flying with Hitler, as well as Far East conflicts before his murder by bandits in Inner Mongolia. Posthumously, he received the Ukrainian Order of Merit in 2008 for his courageous reporting.Gareth Jones (journalist) Wikipedia), Gareth Jones.org Biography
