The Death of Artemio Cruz

Carlos Fuentes (1928–2012) was a Mexican novelist, essayist, and diplomat born in Panama City to Mexican parents, who spent his childhood in various Latin American capitals and the U.S. before studying law in Mexico City and pursuing a writing career. His notable works include The Death of Artemio Cruz (1962), Terra Nostra (1975), The Old Gringo (1985), and Where the Air Is Clear (1958); major achievements include the Miguel de Cervantes Prize (1987), Belisario Domínguez Medal of Honor (1999), and recognition as a leading figure of the Latin American Boom.
