About the Author

Laura Goodman Salverson (1890–1970) was a pioneering Canadian author of Icelandic heritage, born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, who explored immigrant experiences, Icelandic sagas, poverty, and prejudice in her novels and autobiography. Her most notable works include The Viking Heart (1923), The Dark Weaver (1937), and Confessions of an Immigrant's Daughter (1939), the latter two earning Governor General's Literary Awards.
