George Reginald Turner (1916–1997) was an Australian writer and critic best known for science fiction novels written later in his career, including Beloved Son (1978), Vaneglory (1981), Yesterday's Men (1983), and the award-winning The Sea and Summer (1987, also published as Drowning Towers). He first gained recognition in mainstream fiction with the Miles Franklin Award-winning The Cupboard Under the Stairs (1962) and transitioned to science fiction in his sixties, earning the Arthur C. Clarke Award for The Sea and Summer (1988) along with multiple Australian Science Fiction Achievement Awards.
