Sarah Ruhl (born 1974 in Wilmette, Illinois) is an American playwright, poet, professor, and essayist best known for her plays blending mythic themes with everyday life, including Eurydice and In the Next Room (or the Vibrator Play). She gained widespread recognition with The Clean House (2004), a Pulitzer finalist, and has received a MacArthur Fellowship, two Pulitzer nominations, and a Tony nomination. Ruhl teaches playwriting at Yale and serves as Premiere Writer-in-Residence at Signature Theatre Company.
