Marie PonsotAmerican
Marie Ponsot (1921-2019) was an American poet, literary critic, essayist, teacher, and translator born in Brooklyn, New York. Her most notable works include The Bird Catcher (1998), winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award, Springing: New and Selected Poems (2002), and Collected Poems (2016), along with translations of over 30 French books. She received major awards such as the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize (2013), Aiken Taylor Award (2015), Delmore Schwartz Memorial Prize, and served as Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets (2010-2014).
