About the Author
Philippa PearceEnglish
Philippa Pearce (1920-2006) was an English author of children's books, best known for her Carnegie Medal-winning time-slip novel Tom's Midnight Garden (1958). Born in Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire, she drew inspiration from her childhood by the River Cam for many of her over 30 works, including Minnow on the Say (1955) and The Battle of Bubble and Squeak (1978). After working at the BBC and as a children's book editor, she dedicated herself to full-time writing, earning an OBE for her contributions to children's literature.
