Temple Folk

Aaliyah Bilal is an American short story writer whose debut collection Temple Folk (2023) was a finalist for the National Book Award for Fiction. The collection is set in the world of the Nation of Islam, following members of the religion across generations as they navigate faith, doubt, and identity. Bilal's work has appeared in various literary magazines and is notable for its intimate portrayal of Black American religious life.
