喪神 (Sōshin)

Kōsuke Gomi (pen name of Yasusuke Gomi) was a Japanese novelist born in Osaka in 1921, best known for his historical novels featuring swordsmen like Yagyū Jūbei Mitsuyoshi, including the popular serial Yagyū Bugeichō (柳生武芸帳) and The Secret Scrolls, which was adapted into a film starring Toshirō Mifune. He won the prestigious 28th Akutagawa Prize in 1953 for his debut work Sōshin (喪神), launching his career as a leading figure in Shōwa-era popular fiction, though he also wrote on music criticism and other topics before dying of lung cancer in 1980 at age 58.
