Patrick Cottrell (born 1981 in South Korea as Patty Yumi Cottrell) is an American writer who was adopted into a Midwestern family and raised in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Milwaukee. He earned an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, published his debut novel Sorry to Disrupt the Peace in 2017, won a 2018 Whiting Award in fiction along with other honors, came out as transgender in 2021, and teaches creative writing at the University of Denver.
