Snow Country

Yasunari Kawabata (1899–1972) was a Japanese novelist orphaned young and raised by his grandparents, later studying at the University of Tokyo. Renowned for his spare, lyrical prose, he achieved fame with works like Snow Country, Thousand Cranes, and The Sound of the Mountain, becoming the first Japanese author to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1968 for his narrative mastery expressing the essence of the Japanese mind.
