Brontez Purnell (born 1982 in Triana, Alabama) is an American writer, musician, dancer, filmmaker, and performance artist based in Oakland, California. He is the author of several award-winning books, including the novels Since I Laid My Burden Down (2017, Whiting Award winner) and 100 Boyfriends (2021/2022 Lambda Literary Award for Gay Fiction), as well as the punk zine Fag School. Purnell fronts the punk band The Younger Lovers and founded the Brontez Purnell Dance Company.
