About the Author

Cecil Bødker (1927–2020) was a Danish writer and poet, trained as a silversmith, who debuted in 1955 with poetry under the pseudonym Cecil Skar. She gained international acclaim for her young adult fiction, particularly the Silas series starting with Silas og den sorte hoppe (1968), and received the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1976 for her lasting contribution to children's literature. Her works often explore themes of freedom, nature, alienation, and myth, spanning poetry, novellas, novels for adults and children, with several Silas books adapted into films.
