Leon Rooke (born September 11, 1934) is a Canadian novelist and short story writer, originally from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, who moved to Canada in 1969 and now resides in Toronto. His most notable works include the Governor General's Award-winning novel Shakespeare's Dog (1983) and Fat Woman (1980, nominated for the same award), along with numerous short story collections; he was appointed Member of the Order of Canada (CM) in 2007 and co-founded the Eden Mills Writers' Festival.
