Hayden Carruth (1921–2008) was an American poet, literary critic, and anthologist born in Waterbury, Connecticut. Poets.org He authored over 30 books of poetry, along with criticism, essays, a novel, and anthologies, often drawing from rural Vermont life, jazz, and political themes.Whiting Foundation Carruth won the National Book Award for Poetry for Scrambled Eggs & Whiskey (1996) and the National Book Critics Circle Award for Collected Shorter Poems, 1946–1991 (1992), among other honors.
