壁—S・カルマ氏の犯罪 (Kabe—S. Karuma shi no Hanzai)

Kōbō Abe (1924-1993), a Japanese writer often compared to Franz Kafka, was renowned for his surreal, modernist explorations of alienation and identity, with notable works including The Woman in the Dunes (1962, Yomiuri Prize), The Face of Another (1964), and The Box Man (1973). He received major awards such as the Akutagawa Prize (1951) for The Crime of S. Karuma and the Tanizaki Prize (1967), and his novel The Woman in the Dunes was adapted into an award-winning film.
