Rouge Brésil

Jean-Christophe Rufin (born 1952) is a French doctor, diplomat, historian, and novelist, known as one of the founders of Médecins Sans Frontières and a member of the Académie française. His most notable works include L'Abyssin (1997, Prix Goncourt du Premier Roman and Prix Méditerranée), Les Causes perdues (1999, Prix Interallié), Rouge Brésil (2001, Prix Goncourt), and Le Collier rouge (2014, Prix Maurice Genevoix), among others in his ongoing career with recent publications in 2025. He has also served in diplomatic roles, such as French ambassador to Senegal, and authored influential essays on humanitarianism.
