About the Author
Kyōko HayashiJapanese
Kyōko Hayashi (1930–2017) was a Japanese author and Nagasaki atomic bomb survivor who drew international acclaim for her Atomic Bomb Literature, particularly her autobiographical novel Matsuri no ba (Ritual of Death / Place for the Festival), which won the prestigious Akutagawa Prize in 1975. She received numerous awards including the Tanizaki Prize (1990), Noma Literary Prize (2000), and Kawabata Yasunari Prize (1984) for works exploring her experiences and the human condition post-bombing.
