Maria Villavecchia Bellonci (1902–1986) was an Italian writer, historian, and journalist renowned for her richly researched historical biographies and novels focused on Renaissance figures, particularly women such as Lucrezia Borgia, whose 1939 biography won the Viareggio Prize and was translated into twelve languages. She co-founded Italy's prestigious Premio Strega literary award in 1947 with her husband Goffredo Bellonci and Guido Alberti, and received it posthumously in 1986 for her metahistorical novel Rinascimento Privato. Her works, including Tu vipera gentile and Segreti dei Gonzaga, are noted for their psychological depth and use of primary documents to vividly reconstruct history.
