Carl Dennis (born September 17, 1939) is an American poet and educator best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning collection Practical Gods (2001), along with other notable works such as Night School (2018), Another Reason (2014), and Callings (2010). He has received major awards including the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize (2000), Guggenheim Fellowship (1984), and National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship (1988), and taught for decades at the University at Buffalo.
